How to get ChatGPT to write your texts (and when an app is faster)
ChatGPT can write a good reply to a match. Ask it plainly, though, and you get something that reads like a chatbot. Below are three prompts that fix that, the problems you'll still run into, and how a rizz app compares.
Reply to their last message
You have a conversation going and you are stuck on what to send.
Help me reply to someone I'm talking to on a dating app. Here is the conversation, oldest first. Lines starting with ME are mine, THEM are theirs: [paste the chat] Write 5 replies I could send next. - Under 15 words each, lowercase, the way people actually text - No em dashes, no hashtags, at most one emoji - Don't end every reply with a question - Playful and a little flirty, never needy - Make the first one the boldest
Write a first message from their profile
You matched and the chat is empty.
Here is a dating profile I matched with: [paste their prompts, bio and anything you noticed in their photos] Write 5 first messages. - Each one picks a different specific detail from the profile - Under 12 words, casual, easy to answer - No compliments about looks, no "hey how's your week" - At least one should playfully disagree with something they wrote
Fix a text you already wrote
You know roughly what to say but it reads wrong.
Here's a text I want to send: "[your draft]" Context: [one line on where the conversation is] Rewrite it 3 ways: more confident, more playful, shorter. Keep my meaning. Sound like a real text, not an email.
Where it falls short
Even with a good prompt
It loses track of who said what
Paste a chat without labels and ChatGPT will sometimes answer your own message. The ME and THEM labels in the prompts above fix this, but you have to add them every time.
It writes like a chatbot
Left alone, it writes long, polished sentences with em dashes and a question at the end of every line. That style is easy to spot and reads as try-hard.
It needs the whole setup each time
Every new reply means pasting the chat again and restating the rules. It is fine for one message and tedious across a whole conversation.
